What Are Your Goals?

If you are serious about making a change, you already have goals. Finally going to lose some weight and keep it off? Tired of being winded from everyday tasks? Frustrated with your "bad back" or other chronic pathology and the inevitable cycle of painkillers and reinjury? Maybe you are looking to improve your golf or pickleball performance, continue sailing for another decade, or just want to live independently and get the most out of (what should be) your golden years.

Strength is where you start.

Simply put, strength is force production. It is the foundation of all human movement and the most trainable physical attribute we can improve. Strength is also the most lasting adaptation, so we should invest in it—heavily—for long-term health and independence. All of us are constrained by our genetics, past injuries, and the like, but we can make the most of our situation by being stronger.

Grandpa

Strength makes everything else easier.

Balance, posture, coordination, and body awareness are greatly improved through strength training. Porous bones are made denser by safely (and progressively) loading the skeleton with weight. Losing body fat is easier with more muscle and bone tissue burning more calories (and the hormonal changes that come with strength training). Endurance events are less taxing if they are more sub-maximal (because you are stronger). An injury-prone back is made less fragile by encasing it in more muscle (and thicker ligaments). Athleticism is largely determined by genetics, but strength is the one variable in the equation that can be progressively improved throughout a sports career.

This stronger, more agile person will be more durable when a fall or injury inevitably happens. Lastly, there is no magic cure for the ravages of time, but you can choose to be aging and weak, or aging and strong. Which do you think will be more enjoyable?

Safe, Effective Training

Time in the gym must be spent wisely. We focus on compound movements that train the body as a whole system—because that is how the body works—and they give you the most return on your effort and time invested.

The good news is you do not need a lot of exercises to train the entire body optimally. You just need a handful of high-quality movements. The effectiveness of these movements is directly proportional to how well they are executed, so refining our technique becomes a major focus of training.

Our approach is not complex or mysterious. Training that is effective gets tough over time, but you will be able to handle it—safely—and you will get to enjoy the performance, endurance, body composition, confidence, and quality of life improvements that come with it.
